Thanks to everyone who turned out last Saturday for the second Official Tournament of the year.

Belize Golf Tournament - February 26th 2011

Don't forget this weekend is our official Golf tournament for the month of February.

A rain swept Saturday afternoon at the Roaring River Golf Course did not dampen the spirits of 10 hardened golfers.

3 Teams battled out a Scramble competition.

Belize Golf Tournament Results - Update to January 29th 2011 Results

After review it has been decided that Paul Martins Disqualification in the January 29th 2011 Tournament was incorrect and has now been overruled.

The committee from the BAGA and the BGA are both in agreement that he should not have been Disqualified due to his scorecard being added up incorrectly.

Although it is normal for the players to add up their cards at the end of the competition they are not responsible for the addition of the scores. Only that each hole is recorded accurately. The following rules have been applied to this decision :

Rule 33-5 :

In Stroke Play, the Committee is responsible for the addition of scores and application of the handicap recorded on the card.

Rule 34-1b

In stroke play, a penalty must not be rescinded, modified or imposed after the competition has closed. A competition is deemed to have closed when the result has been officially announced.

We apologize to Paul Martin for the incorrect decision. Pauls scorecard showed 66 but was added incorrectly. His real score was 69 and this stands as the winning score. We would like to congratulate him on his victory. The revised results can be viewed here : January 29th 2011 Tournament Results.

The committee would like to remind all players that they should sign their scorecards after they have finished the competition as per Rule 6-6b.

If they have any questions about their round they should check with the committee before signing the card. Once the card has been signed it cannot be altered.

MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING 3 FEBRUARY 2011.


THE BAGA EXECUTIVE BOARD MET TODAY. IN ATTENDANCE WERE :

• ABSENT WERE RAY GARBUTT JR AND KORIE WILLIAMS.

THE FIRST ITEM WE DISCUSSED WAS THE LETTER HANDED OUT AT THE FIRST OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT. THE LETTER WAS FROM THE BGA. WE AS A BOARD HAD SOME CONCERNS IN REGARDS TO THAT LETTER. WE HAVE MADE SOME SUGGESTIONS TO THE BGA AND WE ARE MEETING WITH SAUL, TUESDAY FEBRUARY 8TH.

WE WILL KEEP YOU POSTED AND WILL SUBMIT A COPY OF THE FINAL LETTER WHEN IT IS PREPARED.

THE 2ND ITEM WE DISCUSSED WAS PRIZES FOR OUR (BAGA SOCIAL TOURNAMENTS)
WE DECIDED TO GIVE MEDALS FOR FIRST PLACE IN BOTH CATEGORIES AND CERTIFICATES FOR 2ND AND 3RD IN BOTH CATEGORIES.

WE STILL HAVE NOT DECIDED WHAT TO DO WITH MONIES COLLECTED. SOME OF THE IDEAS DISCUSSED WAS CHARITY, GOLF FOR KIDS (MAYBE SUPPORT 1ST TEE PROGRAM OF BELIZE). MORE ON THAT AT A LATER DATE.

WE DISCUSSED THE NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB IN OUR TOURNAMENTS. THE BAGA IS VERY PROFESSIONAL IN THEIR APPROACH AND WE NEED TO STEP UP. ANDY, RYAN AND I ARE GOING TO TRY TO TAKE OF THAT.

Belize Golf Tournament Results - January 29th 2011

Our first Official Tournament of the year was played on Saturday 29th January 2011.

We were delighted to see 31 players turn up to battle for the prizes. It was also great to see golfers from both the BAGA and BGA turn up and play together. We hope to see this continue throughout the season, so the sport of golf stays healthy and grows stronger in Belize.
