$10 - This is not compulsory but anyone who wants to enter our extra competition must pay $10.

• Closest to the Pin on Hole #1 and #10
• Longest Drive on #15. Ball MUST be on 15th fairway.
• Any score of 1 or 2 on any hole. A 1 beats a 2.

Childrens Golf Lessons

I wanted to write a quick note to all the parents of the children, sponsors and members who attended or helped with our Childrens golf lessons up to this easter.

We had a great time and have seen some really good progress with the golfing skills of our young players. I think the children have also had a lot of fun playing and learning golf, enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Roaring River Golf Course and their after golf ice creams and juices.

They all deserved their Certificates of Achievement that were awarded to them this week.

A big thank you to Jenny and Paul from the Golf course for hosting the childrens lessons. Also thank you to all our sponsors who have donated balls, tees, clubs, juices, snacks, money and sponsored the cost of running the lessons.

If anyone wants to help us with sponsorship with the lessons after Easter we would be happy to hear from you. We hope to grow the program and bring in more children so please spread the word.

We are taking a 2 week break for Easter. Lessons are changing from a Tuesday to a Wednesday and will resume on May 4th. .

Please respond to this email if you are interested in signing your children up for lessons starting Wednesday, May 4th.

Belize Golf Tournament Results - April 9th 2011

Thanks to all the players who turned out this saturday for the fun tournament.

We decided to play an individual 18 hole stableford tournament. Points are awarded for each hole. 1 Point for bogey, 2 points for par, 3 points for birdie and 4 points for eagle. In addition, players get strokes on holes based on their handicaps. For example a 10 handicap player gets 1 stroke on each of the 10 most difficult holes on the course. A player with a 6 handicap gets 1 stroke on each of the 6 hardest holes on the course.

If the player scores a par, but has a stroke it becomes a net birdie, giving him 3 points.

If you play to your handicap you will have 36 points after 18 holes. If you play better than your handicap you will have more than 36 points. If you play worse than your handicap you will have less than 36 points.

Congratulations to Robert Lee who won the best front 9 with a very impressive 23 stableford points.

And congratulation to Jean Louis who won the back 9 with 18 stableford points.

Childrens Golf Lessons

The Childrens Golf Lessons are now in our 3rd week. Below is a slideshow of the kids in action. We are delighted to see the progress of their golf skills and also to see them having fun on Tuesday afternoons.

Remember it is only $5 BZD per child and lessons are every Tuesday at 4pm at the Roaring River Golf Course. We have a good mix of girls and boys.

BAGA - Childrens Golf Lessons in Belize

The first Golf Clinic in Belize took place at the Roaring River Golf Course on Tuesday 8th March. This marks a great step forward for the sport of Golf in Belize as the first 9 children from the Belmopan area participated in a 1 hour golf lesson.

The lessons included instruction on how to play the game, striking the ball, putting, set up and alignment and ended with a fun putting competition.

Belize Blind Strokeplay Pairs Golf Tournament - March 12th 2011

Hello Golfers of Belize,

Saturday we introduce our newest format. Blind Stroke Play Pairs. What is that I hear you ask?

We will all play a normal 18 hole stroke play in randomly drawn groups of 3 or 4. Scorecards will be handed in as normal.

AFTER the tournament all the players names will be put into a hat and the pairs drawn out to find your pairing. Remember this is AFTER the tournament is played so you will not know your partner when you are playing.

Entrance Fee is $55.00 with $5 going to the prize pot.

There will be a first prize for the winning GROSS score and first prize for the winning NET score.

Single Handicappers will not be permitted to be partnered with other Single Handicappers. If they are drawn with each other they will have to pick again.

And of course the Las Vegas "deuce" pot is also open to anyone who fancies their chances of making a 1 or 2 on any hole. This will be an additional $5 entry.

A rain swept Saturday afternoon at the Roaring River Golf Course did not dampen the spirits of 10 hardened golfers.

Belize Golf Tournament Results - Update to January 29th 2011 Results

After review it has been decided that Paul Martins Disqualification in the January 29th 2011 Tournament was incorrect and has now been overruled.

The committee from the BAGA and the BGA are both in agreement that he should not have been Disqualified due to his scorecard being added up incorrectly.

Although it is normal for the players to add up their cards at the end of the competition they are not responsible for the addition of the scores. Only that each hole is recorded accurately. The following rules have been applied to this decision :

Rule 33-5 :

In Stroke Play, the Committee is responsible for the addition of scores and application of the handicap recorded on the card.

Rule 34-1b

In stroke play, a penalty must not be rescinded, modified or imposed after the competition has closed. A competition is deemed to have closed when the result has been officially announced.

We apologize to Paul Martin for the incorrect decision. Pauls scorecard showed 66 but was added incorrectly. His real score was 69 and this stands as the winning score. We would like to congratulate him on his victory. The revised results can be viewed here : January 29th 2011 Tournament Results.

The committee would like to remind all players that they should sign their scorecards after they have finished the competition as per Rule 6-6b.

If they have any questions about their round they should check with the committee before signing the card. Once the card has been signed it cannot be altered.
