BAGA Junior Golf Tournament - October 30th 2011

Watch out adult golfers of Belize, the BAGA kids are in town. 20 lessons have passed since we started the kids program in March 2011 and the children are improving fast. The winning score in Junes tournament was 29 and the winning score at this Octobers tournament was 21, with almost all the kids scores improving.

The BAGA had their second Junior Golf Tournament, Sunday 30th October 2011. 14 Children from Belmopan, Hopkins, Barton Creek and Belize City enjoyed a beautiful sunny day and a great tournament.

A big thank you to all the parents who attended and especially to Robert Lee, Mickey Thornton and Jaime Gonzalez who helped keep order and the scores for the children.

Also thank you to Paul and Jenny Martin for hosting the tournament at the Roaring River Golf Course for the second time. And lastly to Alan Gobie (Gobie Challenge), who has sponsored the children for the past year. This is the start of a new regular competition program for the kids, once a month.

Childrens Golf Lessons, 2011

Yes, children’s golf lessons return to Roaring River Golf Course, near Belmopan every Wednesday from 4pm – 5pm. After the success of the golf lessons from March – June 2011 we will be resuming lessons for the children on September 28th.

Last year the Belize Amateur Golf Association (BAGA), headed by Andy Hunt and Mickey Thornton, completed 15 weeks of lessons, culminating in the first Belize Junior Golf Championship. We are improving on the program this year with better equipment and more competitions.

Our sponsor Gobie Challenge has given us funds to provide better equipment including 9 new sets of clubs, 600 practice range balls and golf gloves for the children. If anyone wishes to get involved with this successful program please contact us. Sponsors are vital to the improvement in what we offer the children.

In November we will have a golf professional from USA, coming to Belize to provide expert tuition for the kids.

It is only $5 per child/lesson which includes snacks, drinks and equipment. See you there. Pick up can be arranged at either Westar or Garbutt Gas Station in Roaring Creek at 3.15pm. Drop off at Westar Gas Station at 5.30pm.

Belize Childrens Golf Tournament - June 29th 2011

What a great day at the Roaring River Golf Course. The first Belize Junior Golf Tournament took place on June 29th 2011. Scroll down this email/post to see the slideshow and Videos of the children in action.

7 Children who have been practicing since March 2011, entered the competition with the watchful eyes of their coaches and parents on them. The atmosphere was great and the children all did incredibly well under such close scrutiny.

We also had a very exciting finish as 2 of our players tied for 1st place and had to enter a play off.

We had a spectacular finish to the tournament as Lucas and Nelson tied after 5 holes and were invited to play off the 5th hole again to decide 1st place. They both shot a 5 forcing another play off hole. On the second play off hole, Lucas and Nelson both hit the green in 2 shots. Lucas making his 2 putts for a par 4. Nelson looked sure to push the final to a 3rd play off hole but his par putt came up short.

Well done to all of the children for training so well, practicing and improving so much over the last 4 months.

First Belize Childrens Golf Tournament - Wednesday 29th June 2011

Hello Parents,

The first childrens golf tournament is coming soon.

We will be holding our last Golf coaching session on Wed, June 29th. This will be a tournament for the children with Medals and prizes for the boys and girls.

We will spend the next 3 weeks preparing the children for this tournament and getting them ready to play. We have already started the preparation by playing one hole games from 75 yards from the Green.

The tournament will be 5 holes and will probably last 2 hours. You are welcome to come along and watch and support. Any questions you can call me on 651 9929.

Childrens Golf Clinic - May 25th 2011

Below are some photos from the Childrens Golf lessons this week. We are starting to see some progress with the boys and girls. We held their first competitive play competition over a 75 yard hole this week and saw some excellent scores ranging from a 3 (par) to some 7s. Good work kids, keep it up.

It is great to see the growth of the group as we are now up to 8-10 children per week. More children are always welcome. Remember it is only $5 per child per week, which includes snack, juices and often prizes.

A big thank you to the Roaring River Golf Course. Also to Mickey Thornton who gives up his time to teach the children. Plus of course Gobie Challenge who continues to sponsor our group.

Childrens Golf Lessons - Every Wednesday

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a good Easter.

We will be resuming Golf lessons for the children on Wednesday May 4th at Roaring River Golf Course. 4pm. Note, the days have been moved from Tuesday to Wednesday. We will run the program for the next 7 weeks, every Wednesday.

It only costs $5 BZD and this also includes Juice and a snack. Girls and Boys are welcome.

I am passing through Roaring Creek at 3.30pm so if anyone needs me to bring their children they can call me arrange to meet me in Roaring Creek.

After lessons I can bring the children to Westar Gas station in Roaring Creek at 5.30pm if anyone wants to meet us there to pick there children up. Let me know if you want your child brought out to the Gas station.

Childrens Golf Lessons

I wanted to write a quick note to all the parents of the children, sponsors and members who attended or helped with our Childrens golf lessons up to this easter.

We had a great time and have seen some really good progress with the golfing skills of our young players. I think the children have also had a lot of fun playing and learning golf, enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Roaring River Golf Course and their after golf ice creams and juices.

They all deserved their Certificates of Achievement that were awarded to them this week.

A big thank you to Jenny and Paul from the Golf course for hosting the childrens lessons. Also thank you to all our sponsors who have donated balls, tees, clubs, juices, snacks, money and sponsored the cost of running the lessons.

If anyone wants to help us with sponsorship with the lessons after Easter we would be happy to hear from you. We hope to grow the program and bring in more children so please spread the word.

We are taking a 2 week break for Easter. Lessons are changing from a Tuesday to a Wednesday and will resume on May 4th. .

Childrens Golf Lessons

The Childrens Golf Lessons are now in our 3rd week. Below is a slideshow of the kids in action. We are delighted to see the progress of their golf skills and also to see them having fun on Tuesday afternoons.

Remember it is only $5 BZD per child and lessons are every Tuesday at 4pm at the Roaring River Golf Course. We have a good mix of girls and boys.

BAGA - Childrens Golf Lessons in Belize

The first Golf Clinic in Belize took place at the Roaring River Golf Course on Tuesday 8th March. This marks a great step forward for the sport of Golf in Belize as the first 9 children from the Belmopan area participated in a 1 hour golf lesson.

The lessons included instruction on how to play the game, striking the ball, putting, set up and alignment and ended with a fun putting competition.
